The Toronto High School Alumni Association was founded to provide scholarship grants to deserving graduates and to keep alive memories of high school days and "re-u-knight" friends among graduates of THS.
The first scholarship grants were given to the 1990 class and totaled 5 at $200 each. This year we will be able to fund 21 student scholarship awards and 1 teacher award for a total of $15,000 – two of the scholarships are four year grants. In the past twenty years we have given a total of 302 student scholarships, 16 teacher grants and 13 Karaffa Excellence Awards amounting to $207,400.
Officers of the Association are elected every four years and reorganized each January. The Foundation committee is appointed by the Association and works with the high school to select deserving and qualified students to receive the awards. All applicants are submitted anonymously, and selected by an IRS approved scoring system in compliance with our 503c IRS standing.
Through the generosity of Jane Walker McConnell '54, our office space is donated in a historical building she owns in Toronto. Through donations to operating expenses and membership dues we are able to keep our office staffed three days a week for public usage and our computer databases with the latest updated programs.
The office database contains a permanent list of graduates from 1889 to present. Updates are constant and the program has been expanded to include email addresses.
The Association publishes the "KnighTimes" newsletter three times a year and mails it to dues paying members. We also maintain a website: www.torontoohioalumni.com. We provide sale items of hats, shirts, sweatshirts, cookbooks, mugs, throws and high school replicas; which can be shipped for a small fee.
The Association has hosted five All-School Reunions. The next one will be held on Labor Day Weekend 2014. We are able to assist any class that is planning a reunion by providing a class list or other information.
The THS Alumni Association is operated by volunteer alumni who devote many hours to insuring that the alumni of Toronto High School stay in contact with each other.
